Skunk2 Racing – An Inside Look

Skunk2's HUBDYNO by Rototest

When the leading-edge aftermarket parts specialist Skunk2 Racing, part of Group A Engineering, decided to upgrade their R&D capabilities they opted for an all-wheel-drive dynamometer from Rototest.

Based out of Norco, California, Skunk2 Racing's goal since 1994 has been to simply build the highest quality, best performing aftermarket parts for today's sport compact vehicles. As part of Skunk2 Racing's commitment to developing industry-leading products, they have remained actively involved in various forms of motorsports through technical and product partnerships, as well as with their own race vehicles for more than 18 years.

Skunk2's staff is comprised of industry leaders, racers and enthusiasts who are passionate about what they do and understand what other enthusiasts want. Their perspective is shaped by real-world racing experiences as well as by practical science,
and the company emphasizes that this is precisely the reason that makes Skunk2 products stand out. Firmly grounded in their understanding of engineering, they make every effort to embrace advanced technology.

The company design and manufacture high-performance engine and suspension components, including but not limited to: supercharger systems, engine pistons and connecting rods, coil over suspension kits, intake manifolds, throttle bodies, valves, camshafts and much more.

Their products are distributed mainly in the US but also in Europe as a result of their recent expansion within Europe, as well as several Asian countries. Their focus lies in the design and manufacturing of parts for Sport Compacts, Modern Muscle, but also Harley Davidson motorcycle markets.

Skunk2 use ROTOTEST HUBDYNO 1005 in their lab
All Skunk2's products are carefully planned and designed in-house, using the latest computer simulation and modelling techniques, followed by careful testing in controlled laboratory environments using state-of-the-art equipment. They rigorously tests all their parts for performance gains with a Rototest dynamometer. Testing requires hundreds of pulls, and sometimes many more, which is why their dynamometer needs to be durable and consistent. With their HUBDYNO dynamometer by Rototest in their possession for almost a year now Skunk2 have had time to evaluate it in depth and they now know for sure that it is just as accurate on the 1,000th dyno pass as it was on its first. The dynamometer’s accuracy is one feature that Skunk2 values as top three feature of dynamometer system. The other two on their top three list are the systems mobility and its user friendliness.

"Investing in a dynamometer system could be the single most important investment you can make for your business, it has the highest ROI possible" explains Jeff Giovino at Group A Engineering / Skunk2 Racing, when asked whether he would recommend the HUBDYNO by Rototest to others. He continues by adding "Rototest's dynamometers are being used by major OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and high profile racing teams, that proves the level of Rototest products".

Group A Engineering, which is the group Skunk2 Racing belongs to, has almost 20 years of history in the industry. Today their business includes much more than solutions for Hondas from Skunk2 Racing, but also supercharger kits from Kraftwerks USA (kraftwerksusa.com) and fuel injection and air induction systems for European cars from Grams Performance (gramsperformance.com).
